California, Arizona, & Texas Among the Toughest States for Sales Tax

Gail Cole, a notable author for all things sales & use tax for Avalara, recently published an article on WooCommerce.com on The 10 Toughest States for Sales Tax.

While the article itself was greatly informative, it came as little surprise to us that California, Arizona, Texas, & Colorado (each of which are home to the large majority of our clients) are 4 of the 10 states listed.

Don't Be Fooled by Nexus Rules

April 1st is commonly known as April Fool’s Day.

It’s also the date when Amazon started collecting sales tax in four more states — Maine, New Mexico, Hawaii and Idaho —bringing the total to 45 states and the District of Columbia.

 

 

Amazon is no fool and sales tax nexus is no joke. States are tired of losing revenue from tax-free remote sales and are starting to crack down on businesses who fail to register or collect sales tax when their sales activities are deemed substantial enough to warrant it.
