Last weekend the Klear Systems team was invited to enjoy all the excitement of the 115th US Open as proud partners of Avalara. Armed with its flamboyant reputation and orange army, Avalara far exceeded expectations by renting out a luxurious corporate tent alongside the 18th hole at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
Avalara’s air-conditioned tent featured abundant food, drink, big-screen TV tournament coverage, and more setting the perfect mood to enjoy championship golf among partners, clients and friends. “This is like a coming out event for us, it really is. It’s a thank you to all the customers and partners that helped us get here.” CEO Scott McFarlane said in an interview with Geekwire.

The US Open tent — which, in true Avalara style, had island vibes, margaritas flowing and orange everywhere — was only a single part of last weekend's festivities hosted by Avalara. They also rented out the entire Cedarbrook Lodge which acted as the weekend's HQ to enjoy more splendor including a welcome reception, golf-themed movie night, hosted breakfast and a luau on the lawn.

“We had a pretty good idea of where we wanted to be in 2015,” McFarlane said in an interview with Geekwire. “But there’s a difference between having a good idea and actually serving food and sitting in an air-conditioned tent on the 18th tee. So this makes everybody feel good — our company, our partners, our customers, and everyone who believed in it along the way.”
While 'fun” might not be the first word associated with a sales tax automation company hosting partners and clients at the U.S. Open of Golf, Avalara has made it their goal to smash industry stereotypes and breathe new life into the space.
“Tax isn’t fun,” McFarlane said in the same interview. “But just because it’s serious and isn’t fun doesn’t mean the people around it aren’t fun and don’t like having fun. We give everyone permission to be themselves and to enjoy themselves here. It’s cool — really cool.”
